romanceHello all my romance fanatics! I know I’m a little behind in my reviews, but it’s because I have been so busy with ARCS and working on my own romance story. So I thought as a treat for your patience, I’d share the opening to my upcoming novella titled UnHinged!

Now I have the cover ready, but I’m not ready to show you that. Not just yet! But keep an eye out for details as I’ll be setting up a newsletter shortly and the cover will be revealed there FIRST. And I promise, IT.IS.BEAUTIFUL!

Oh and since I AM in the beginning stages, thoughts, opinions, and/or suggestions are welcome.

All right, as stated, here is the preview of UnHinged © Brigit Rosé. Sneak-Peek

Chapter One

“Are you sure this looks okay?” Ezzie brushed her hands down the tight black dress. It hugged her hips and showed off her curvaceous body. If this thing couldn’t show her crush she was a woman, nothing would. So what if he was her brother’s best friend. Or that he’d roomed with her brother all through college. Damn it, she was eighteen years old. She had to tell him how she felt before she herself left for college.

Matt squeezed her shoulders. “For the millionth time, yes. Honey, if he still sees a baby girl with you wearing this, he’s either gay or not interested.”

“Break it down for me why don’t you.” Her best friend meant well, but sometimes she really wished he’d lie to her. Maybe not. She flopped back on her bed and blew out an exasperated breath. If things went according to plan, tomorrow night her life would drastically change. She’d actually give herself to a guy she cared about.

“I’ve sworn to be nothing, but utterly truthful with you. Don’t you remember our pinky swear the day we met?”

littleblackdressEzzie smiled. A day she’d never forget. She loved her small as hell hometown, but people weren’t exactly ready to saddle up to an openly gay teenager. Matt had been the new kid in school. Well, they’d all been new. Freshmen. Fresh meat for the grinder. She’d stood up to a couple of juniors picking on him. Bam! Instant best friend. “Of course I do.”

“Good, then do me a favor. If this blows up in your face, promise me you’ll come stay with my parents and me in Santa Barbara. We can spend the summer there and then head to college together.” He held out his pinky finger. They’d both intended to start at the University of SoCal in the fall.

She sat up, hooked her pinky finger in his and they kissed each other on the cheeks like aristocrats. It had become their own personal joke for years and the way they made the ultimate commitment to one another. “I promise. But it’s going to work out.”

“If you say so.” Matt attempted to look positive, but appeared skeptical at best. He’d never been good at faking it.

Whatever. She was positive enough for both of them. Jumping to her feet, she stood in front of the mirror one last time. She swept her hair to the side for Matt to unzip the back of the slinky black dress. It had to work. And if she embarrassed herself, at least she had a contingency plan. “Yep. I do. Now, help me out of this thing.”

“Ezzie, can you come here please?” Her mother called from down the hall.

She poked her head out her bedroom door. “In a minute, Mom.”

I LLLLLLOOOOOVVVEEEEDDD this book! There were so many hot and steamy sex scenes, awesome scenes delving into backstory, wonderful romantic scenes, and some scenes I wanted to step into the book and stab the bad guy. Well, stab isn’t quite the right word. Castrate is more appropriate.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. You know how I do. So let me rewind and play this fiddle right.

Ring Synopsis

Colin Riley’s life has been rough, but he survived and let the past lie in the past. At least until he crossed paths with Alexandra Vaughn. The last thing he was prepared for was falling inlove with the daughter of the man who nearly ruined his life. But from the moment they met, Colin knew Alex was meant to be his. Why else would he let her talk him into starring in some play? It was supposed to be a way for them to get close. There was no way he could’ve known saying yes to the role would change their lives forever. But that’s what happens when Richard Steed, the most sought after agent in Hollywood, swoops in promising to make all their dreams come true. Too bad Richard has other ideas. With a ghost from the past and an agent hell-bent on tearing them apart, can Colin and Alex survive The Rise to Fame?

Now you get the gist of what happens. So, before I delve into my review, consider this your only warning: SPOILERS AHEAD!! Read at your own risk.

Okay, I’m gonna say it. The opening was HILARIOUS! While it started with one of the many, wonderful tropes we love and know when it comes to romance books, it did not stay that way. Bravo! And yes, THAT is what made me laugh. I mean, come on, how many women do you know who accidentally spill coffee on a hot guy feel up said guy’s abs within a matter of seconds from aforementioned spill? And we got this all from the woman’s POV. Even better! Let me just share this wonderful moment with you.

“Her eyes wandered back to the material clinging to his body like a second skin, highlighting every muscle. Wait, those can’t be muscles, can they? she thought. Damn, they’re so hard. Maybe he has on some kind of weight belt. Nope, they’re muscles. Wait, why is he looking at me like that? Probably because I’m not even blotting anymore. I have lifted his shirt and I’m feeling up his stomach like some pervert.”dreamy

Funny, right? And this is just in the first few pages. Certainly gives you an idea of what to expect for the rest of the novel. And it only got better from there.

Some of the things that the characters said were just so natural it makes you feel like you’re right there. Here’s a couple of my favorites.

  1. “‘Hey, I know I just dumped coffee all over you, but you’re so hot you probably didn’t even feel it. Wanna grab a bite?’” (No, Alex did not say this to Colin.)
  2. “‘He couldn’t take his eyes off you. It was like he just got out of the desert and you were a big ol’ glass of ice water he wanted to guzzle down and dump all over his half-naked bod.’” (Talk about lust. Oh, and Alex’s friend, Jen, the one who said this is like this throughout the whole novel.)
  3. “‘Don’t know. Don’t care. When God sends you walking sex twice in one day, you don’t ask questions. You just say, ‘thank you.’” (Jen, again. Not quite funny, but I totally want a friend like her. Wait … hold on … I think I have one or two. Maybe more.)

And that’s all just in the beginning of the book. I have so many favorite lines and scenes that follow after the first chapter. One of which is just after Alex convinces Colin to do the play. Check it out and see what I mean. (Side note, aren’t they just cute together?)

“Alex squealed, throwing her arms around his neck and covering his face with small, quick kisses.

‘Alright, alright already,’ he said with a smile. ‘You’re like an excited puppy.’

‘I’m better. I’m house trained. I won’t piddle on the floor.’”

This scene cracked me up. Not just because I have dogs who are house trained and still occasionally piddle on the floor, but because I’ve never heard a grown woman refer to herself as house trained.

From here, their relationship … well, it develops pretty naturally for a romance. Obviously from the above scene there is a strong sexual connection. The first issue they face occurs a couple of days in. This is when Colin discovers that Alex is the daughter of the man who sent him to prison. Now, I don’t want to give everything away, so I won’t go into details. You’ll just have to read the book to understand Colin’s history. But Lord, I wanted to give him a hug. He went through some shit.couple-hugging_gltrends.com_

But Alex’s father isn’t the real villain of the story. In fact, he doesn’t come into the picture until after opening night. That is Richard Steed. An arrogant, self-righteous asshole! I don’t know why, but I say that and I imagine my friends saying, “Don’t hold back. Tell us how you really feel.” My response? I completely understand Lorena Bobbitt. Because Richard Steed deserves to be castrated.

I’m not going to explain WHY I feel that way. Instead, I’m going to encourage you to read the book by sharing MORE of my favorite lines.

  1. “‘Here, you can use this to dry your penis. Hair! I meant to dry your hair.’” (Come on, you know we’ve all embarrassed ourselves like this before.)
  2. “‘Unfortunately, Colin won’t be able to come by later because he will be too busy having his brains fucked out repeatedly by this puta. It was lovely meeting you, Marguerite. Goodbye.’” (Retract the claws! I mean, damn. Look at Alex. I was quite proud.)
  3. “‘Are you kidding me? No kiss? No cuddling? I feel so used.’ He pouted pretending to be hurt.” (If you know a guy who does this, he’s a keeper.)

Now, I don’t want to give the ending away, but I will say it does end on a cliffhanger. However, the second book to complete the series The Cost of Fame does release in aaabbbooouuutttt 4 weeks? September 19th. And you can pre-order it NOW. Trust me, by time you get to the end, you’ll be DYING to know what happens.

With that said, I give this book

5-Star

And if I could, I’d give it another half star for desirability!
